This post is brought to you by IKEA and Her Campus.
Oh my gosh…today is my first day of class of my third year of college. You can ask if I’m believing it or if I’m alright, but in reality, the answer is hell no. I can’t believe that as I write this, I’m starting the year that marks 3/4 of the way through college. It feels as if just yesterday I was starting school and decorating my dorm room, but I just finished decorating my dorm room in my third-year apartment! How crazy is that?! Well, this year is a bit special because I got to partner with IKEA to show you all just how amazing a small apartment or dorm can be with their help!
When you head to the IKEA website, there is an amazing space for students to find out which of these IKEA styles they enjoy best, Preppy Chic, Playful Pastels, Urban Minimalism, Laid-Back Boho, Rustic & Adventurous, Tech-Inspired, & Casual & Athletic! If you don’t know, IKEA also has a quiz so you can find out which style fits you best! My results told me Preppy Chic. So that’s just how the room was decorated!
Living in a dorm is not easy. There’s not a lot of room for a lot of the necessities in a dorm room, especially when the bed and desk are already in the room taking up space! I loved the Preppy Chic style because it’s just like my own personal style. Emory is really great school, but not an Ivy League college (although often called the Ivy of the South). My style is very indicative of the academic styles. Books and little smaller touches that really show someone’s personality are major aspects of the Preppy Chic style. I love these and used them since day 1 in my room. You don’t have to break the budget when you’re styling your college dorm room because IKEA is right here with you to stay within the budget, but find the best bits to fit your style.
I had an amazing time in NYC finding the perfect aspects of the Preppy Chic style. There’s a video that I worked on with Her Campus, so you can check it out below! I focused on how to deck out the living/study space in the room. That’s what I love to focus on in my room! When you use fairy lights and classic patterns, what’s not to love?! The video has tons of little tips that can help you make the most of the small space with the items you find at IKEA and to bring your personality to your room!
I was obsessed with the throw, which is so soft and perfect for the end of a bed, as well as the lamp, which can act as a phone charger for lucky Android users (iPhone users can use it too with a special case!), and the photo frames, which are perfect for photos with friends and cute prints like we had in the shoot!
If you’re in love with the Playful Pastels or Laid-Back Boho looks, feel free to head over to Katya & Corey’s blogs where you can see their styles as well!
Special thanks to IKEA and Her Campus for producing this entire production! I had an amazing time working with you all, and just know that all opinions are mine and my alone. Also, thanks to all of the fabulous ladies who worked on this shoot, it was a smash!!

What a cute room and I love how you decorated it. IKEA has the best stuff and so trendy and affordable! Your dorm room actually looks big for a dorm room or perhaps its because you decorated it by maximizing the space. I love the “Preppy Chic” style too. This makes me want to redecorate myself! xoxo, Christine

I only wish my dorm was this cute in college, but it was nowhere near. It was color coordinated, but that’s about it! Haha had I had this opportunity, preppy chic would definitely be my go-to for decor as well. It’s simple, with lots of pizazz and style. I love your decor!

What an exciting campaign you got to work on! I loved shopping at IKEA back when I was a college student because everything was so affordable (well relatively so compared to other furniture places) and their items were always so simple and chic! I love the items you picked babe xo, sharon

I love Ikea. I am just starting to decorate my dorm room for my first year of college. Thank you for sharing because as you know dorm rooms are tiny. For this year I have to deal with the small space – no other choice. Going to Ikea!

OK, hun, you know this post hit me right in the heart as I happen to be one of those Swedish people proud of our most known export, IKEA. I do have to confess I don’t own that many pieces from there though, but it is an incredible place to find affordable, yet stylish products for your home that still are quality made. Kind of like their Swedish counterpart in fashion, H&M. You just got to know what pieces to pick as there are some really bad quality products in their sortiment as well, but you sure picked the goodies! 🙂

Thomas FalkenstedtAfter wading through the multi level IKEA, these were amazing! I had to test some of them out like the desk (I was worried it would fall, but if it can support my weight, it can take anything lol), but I’m so happy that I found some quality bits that work well! There’s no way I could forget it was Swedish and it is one of my favorite of the Swedish exports! I love IKEA and it’s like being in a candy store at 20!
Bernice
Omg I absolutely love going to IKEA because there are so many incredible finds that cost only a few dollars but look so expensive! It’s all about planning your way through IKEA though so you don’t end up getting stuff you won’t use haha I love how you’ve styled your dorm room!

Jordan Chapman
