So I’m continuing with the Balmain theme on the blog this week, by spotlighting their 29-year-old creative director: Olivier Rousteing. Balmain is one of my favourite brands, so it’s about time that I brought him up on the blog!
Olivier Rousteing is a Frenchman born in Bordeaux, France, and in the last few years, he’s risen to power and status in the fashion world. He began his career by studying at the ESMOD (Ecole Supérieure des Arts et Techniques de la Mode) in Paris, before taking his talents to Roberto Cavalli. He took over as their creative director before moving to Balmain in 2011, just as their former creative director, Christope Decarnin, made his exit. Since then, Rousteing has made the brand even more elaborate, sexy, and also accessible.
Gone are the days when Balmain could only be bought in the high fashion stores like Saks or Bergdorfs, but now, people can shop online for Balmain, and with the release of the H&M x Balmain campaign, Rousteing has been killing the came. His signature sequins, plunges, and embellishments run his collections. Rousteing has successfully created a name for himself and rebranded Balmain. He has dressed everyone from Rihanna, Beyonce, the Kardashians, and so many more.
With the direction that Olivier has taken Balmain in only a few years, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future. The prices are fair couture prices, with simple things going into the thousands, but what do you expect from one of the top fashion houses in the world? I’m a big fan of embellishments, so these pieces draw my eye and just make me cry over their beauty all day.
