Fashion week has kicked off with the first ever New York Men’s Fashion Week, so I think that it’d only be right for me to start a new set of posts. The designer spotlight. Each week, I’ll be finding and writing about a designer or brand that I love, or one that I’ve just come across. These won’t all be major designers and brands like Topshop or Karl Lagerfeld, but the smaller, lesser known designers also. It’s only right to start off with one of my new favourites, so I’m writing about Kelly Shaw!
So what is it that I like about Kelly so much? Well as she says, her clothes “are about connecting the past to the future in radical, transgressive ways and fighting for what you believe to be right,” which makes it clear that she designs her collections not just to look nice. The some of the pieces remind me of Victoria Beckham, but others remind me of Topshop, both of which are brands that I love!
Kelly’s designs find the perfect middle ground between high-street and high-end items. I love graphic tees and simple prints so the designs that she creates are perfect for my style. Some can be worn to a wedding or shopping with friends or just studying in the library. Cute prints and cuts don’t just draw me to Kelly Shaw’s designs, it’s the words on the clothes. The messages printed on the pieces are powerful. If read correctly, they can make people think about the world around them and what they’re wearing. That right there is the reason why I picked Kelly for my first designer spotlight.
One of my favourite pieces is the La La La Red Sweat because it’s just sassy and cute! The message is clear and it’s a great representation of everything Kelly Shaw creates! I hope you all enjoyed this first designer spotlight, it was fun to write up! Here’s to next week!
