As a blogger, much of my life revolves around social media. I don’t know how to explain it, but honestly, over the last 2 and half years, tools like Instagram and Twitter have taken over my life. But, I never realized it until now. Last week, my phone stopped working. Literally, I was in the middle of Cannes, France and SIM card decided that it did not love me anymore. I’ve had the phone since I went to London Fashion Week, but now, all of a sudden, I had a million problems. Because of the SIM card problems, I was basically cut off from social media instantaneously. An instant social media break.
It was really hard from me at first and I freaked out, not because of how I was going to contact my friends at home, but instead because of how I would post to social media. Over the last week, I have had some time to think about life and enjoy the places that I’ve been fortunate enough to visit. Being cut off has brought a certain clarity to my thinking that I did not know was possible, so now that I have reasonable access to wireless internet and social media again, I have a brand new approach in mind.
A typical day in my life (from a social media standpoint) goes like this. Wake up in the morning, first things first, check the Snapchat stories. After that, I check Instagram for 10 minutes, scrolling through the Song sisters newest posts or checking the latest drops from Topshop’s lines. I’ll post a morning picture, especially if I’m traveling, and then head on scrolling through.

Over the course of one day, I go an average of 3-4 Instagram posts, depending on how eventful my day is, 2-3 tweets, and anywhere from 4 to 20 snaps. My life since the beginning of this blog has revolved around letting people into my life and being an open book, which is both a good and a bad thing. Since my phone has been off, I have had time to enjoy the places that I’m visiting. My life has not solely been about getting on the Paris or Amsterdam snapstories, which is cool if it happens. I took a boat tour of Amsterdam and actually listened to that stereotypical prerecording, but it was nice. I had a great time and I’ve never been able to think like this before and enjoy my life.
You only live once. As much as I know that, I feel like I have let social media cloud my life a lot lately. Even short breaks are great for my life. I feel that once I return home, I’ll be able to take more time off. I love posting when I travel, so it’s understandable. When my life slows down, I think I need to take more breaks so I can enjoy these literal once-in-a-lifetime experiences. If you’ve taken a break and felt similarly, let me know in the comments below!!

I noticed recently that I’m totally addicted to my phone, especially to Instagram. The first thing in the morning I do is pick up my phone and check IG, And every question every thought I have during the day I immediately google it. It’s driving me crazy!
