Hi there! I hope you’ve had time to tune into my Listen to Black Women Series on Instagram. Each week, I speak to Black Women about their experiences in this life. This week, I was fortunate enough to speak with Laboujienata Diallo and Naki Carey about how we can all be better and support Black Trans Women and be a better ally to the Black Trans community overall. Doing this series really taught me where I need to work on myself, and I want to be a better co-conspirator. I don’t have the largest platform, but I am going to use the one I have and share. I created this page in order to be a place where you can find more information, resources, and then do more. We all need to work on ourselves, so I hope this can be a resource for people to share and help everyone become better co-conspirators to the Black Trans community.
Let’s learn together.
In your own life, there are a few things you can do. Hold others in your life accountable and ensure they aren’t continuing the cycles that perpetuate transphobia. Share resources and help people expand their mindsets to be more knowledgeable and supportive. Educate those around you, both those who ask and those who don’t. Look into yourself and hold yourself accountable for the biases you bring to the table. Work on yourself. Work on removing gendered language from your vocabulary to be more inclusive. Don’t place the labor on trans people to do the emotional labor for you.
I hope this can be a resource and give you a place to start doing the research, but truly, read these first. Then do additional research, and then, share it with others. Let’s end this cycle together to be better co-conspirators and not just performative allies.
