So this post has been long in the making. I’ve probably written and rewritten it 3 or 4 times. In doing so, my London roundup has become one of the hardest posts for me to write…ever. I don’t know why it’s taken so long, but at the end of the day, I can’t be apologetic. I’m a student at the end of the day, so right now, my schooling has taken over my life. I hate having to take off for a while, but it has to happen sometimes! I’ve gotten my life together now (other than my love-hate relationship with final cut pro), so there will hopefully be more regular videos and posts starting this week. One of the things I love about London is that being lost in London is the best. Okay now that this business has been taken care of, let’s jump into it!
Okay so, 2 questions. Where exactly was I?
London Fashion Week SS17
But Why?!
Well that’s a bit of a story…So I went to London Fashion Week for the second year in a row this year and I loved it. I was able to get British Fashion Council accreditation this year (whooo!), so shows were in my sight. Between going to shows, attending events, and shooting street-style, my LFW time was very very hectic. Most days, I was up from 8 until 11, either working on a video or planning for the next day. I want to give you 5 tips on how to survive the city, no matter if you’re a blogger heading for fashion week, or someone just looking for a great time in London!
1. Find a great place to stay, with a comfy bed!
Whether you want to rent out an apartment with SACO or you feel snug as a bug in a smaller room at the Hub by Premier Inn, find a place to stay that you think you’ll love!! I’m such a fan of the two places I mentioned because they have such an atmosphere that makes me feel at home. After I’ve been walking all day, I just want a place to sit and sleep. Both of these are great places that I like to call home for a short period of time.
2. The Tube can be your best friend or your worst enemy.
I love the London Underground for many reasons, yes. It’s easy and helpful when you’re trying to get around, but at the same time, it’s a bit of a curse…you can spend a lot of money very very quickly. I know that personally, I can spend £60 in a week in London very quickly. Not because I’m going a million places, but when I’ve got a work meeting in Camden but a shoot in Shoreditch, the fares add up quickly. I recommend using your feet when you can. Hiring a car or Uber is ridiculously expensive and only pays off when you’re moving a large suitcase that weighs as much as you do.
3. Carry your camera everywhere, and PS…no one cares if you vlog in public.
From the words of my very gorgeous and very nice friend, Adrienne of That’s My Mum, no one cares if you vlog in public! If you watch any of my videos, you know that I’m not one to vlog in public. I hate doing it in all honesty because I feel like people are staring me down. In London, there are a million vloggers and bloggers, so seeing a Canon 70D or an Olympus Pen out in broad daylight is nothing! Get the shots you want…no one is paying you any mind and if they are, tell them to piss off.
4. Take some time to visit the markets!
This was my first time to actually make it to the markets, but I went to Old Spitalfields Market and it was amazing! The market is open on the weekends and limited stalls during the week! I actually bought a brand new ring for my expanding collection, so I definitely say visit the markets! I love looking through the various stalls filled with handmade jewelry, pretty scarves, and vintage shoes and in London, there are markets for everyone!
There are tens of markets in London and if you want a full list, I’ve got a Wikipedia link with EVERY one!
5. Get lost, you’re bound to find something you wouldn’t think of seeing.
I’m a major advocate of this last point…get lost. Get lost and fall in love. That’s how I’ve come to fall in love with this city in the short times I’ve spent because I’ve taken it upon myself to fall in love with the city by taking the time to just get lost and find myself. I’ve stumbled across cute little cafes, vintage stores, and so many other things in my time. It’s a major part of finding London’s charm!
